I continued the theme of looking inward where I focus on various emotions I feel or feel is very common for others to feel. This marking period I continued to work on the pieces that discusses pressure from parents and making a decision against what they want is like taking a gamble. I also am working on a piece that kind of response to the gambling one where the child grows up and does not trust his parents anymore. I have also begun less formal works where I take my feelings and my experiences and make quick pieces about them using what I have at the moment(which is usually just drawings). This includes experiences that make me feel lucky in a sense and just feeling bummed out on my birthday every year(except last year surprisingly).
Planning: For the majority of this marking period I examined various artists and looked at what I liked about their art. Through this, I found that I like white outlines since they kind of highlight the piece overall and adds emphasis to various parts of the piece. I also found that some artist works under a general theme and then use that to go into more specific themes for certain collections of art. When learning this it made me think about my art and for my more formal school-related pieces, I tend to focus on trust and beliefs. So, for pieces that I do outside of school, I decided to focus more on my personal feelings and kind of step out of the boundary of comfort for those pieces. When it comes to planning for creating the pieces I did know I was going to make(for this class) I looked at displacement maps as I noticed many artists on Instagram showing models with really small details in object mode and I wanted to do that my self to create a texture I can visualize better. I also knew that for my current work that I wanted to include trees so I looked into the sapling generator add-on and have been using that to make trees. Also, I did not want to use metaballs to create a whole body for my model in my current piece, so I looked into the skin modifier that created a simple mesh I could work off of. Lastly, for all my pieces this marking period, I would make a page dedicated to the piece to kind of spill everything in my head out onto paper so it is permanent and I could refer back to it for guidance. I found this to be really helpful.
Producing:
Basically, the model for the piece I am working on is done. All I have to do really is rig and pose it. I do want to change the colors on the model to something more peach and orange but I have the colors like this so I am not staring at gray the whole time. I feel like I can draw some parts of the model and make it look better than what was modeled but I want to render it first before I make that decision.
I never really imagined text to be in this image but I really liked including it. I also liked the color scheme although I wish I changed the color of the table so it was not as green as it is now. I also like how it included a gradient in the background as it builds emphasis on the bottom more than the top. I also liked how I was able to change the models in ibisPaint X when I decided there was something I did not like about them. Overall I like how this turned out and I want to look more into text in art.
This begins my less formal pieces where I really focus on my feelings and thoughts. This is one of two where I illustrate cool things I saw in the sky that made me feel cool or lucky to be able to see them. This illustrates me driving home and the moon in the sky was huge. My brother explained that it was some science thing that made the moon look bigger but I think this piece really illustrates how I felt looking at it.
This is the second part of this lucky sky duo where I am basically outside of work throwing away the trash and I see a star right above the moon(although it could have been a plane I guess). this is still a work in progress because I do not feel it really shows what I saw yet. I feel that I need to emphasize that I was at work or I was throwing the trash away by modeling a dumpster, and I feel I need to make the moon and star stand out more.
This piece was made to illustrate how I feel on my birthday most times. I planned this at the beginning of December before my birthday but I ended up actually making it while I was waiting to perform at the holiday concert. I include this because I actually like finally creating something I thought with the little time and resources I had and I liked how it turned out. I liked how focused more on the rainy cloudy day feeling I get during this time rather than focusing on it's my birthday because it is really just some weird feeling I get around the time and nothing actually causes it. I really like the color scheme and I like how I just made a plain human figure so it's not like this feeling is exclusive only to me.
This was another piece I worked on with an idea I had for a long time and finally got done. this piece is basically about zoning out the world around you through some music. I wanted to include a lot of colors into it but I liked how I was able to keep it simple. I also made this with the whole character but I like the piece much more with only part of the character.
Evaluating: After modeling a whole entire character I have realized that I do not ever want to do that again. It just took too much time and I felt that I could have done something easier. Also, for the hair in the gambling piece, I added and moved those around in ibis Paintx while in the rebellion piece I modeled it since the character was in a more complicated pose. Despite it being in a more complicated pose, I still felt that the time it took to model the hair was too long especially since it took me very little time to create hair in the previous piece. In the gambling piece, overall I really liked it but I felt that it was too crowded even though I did not like the look when I did try to get rid of stuff. Other than that I really liked making this piece and apparently, I can handle modeling three halves of characters and not one whole character. When it comes to my less formal out of school pieces, I had a lot of fun making these, but I feel like it is a bunch of photos and drawings. Rather than taking photos I want to model things especially since the parts that are photos are not that complicated. I also like drawing as it feels less complicated especially since I am not trying to be good at it.
Integrating: Something I want to continue is creating those pages of ideas since it really helped me keep track of what I want to do. With planning, I also want to have a better idea of what can and should be modeled and what would just take too long to model. That way I can keep this mix of 2D and 3D I like but not dedicate a lot of time to modeling something that in reality is not worth it. Something I also want to try is maybe combing drawn and modeled parts to create one whole character since my pieces are more 2D oriented despite 3D models also being used. I also think this sounds cool so I really want to try it out. Maybe even with this current model. One thing I also noticed this marking period is that I like to include text in my pieces so it makes the message more clear and helps explain the meaning more. This is something I want to continue and also be more creative with the next marking period. Lastly, I liked how I was able to create as much as I did this marking period and I want to continue doing so. So in the future, I want to create a list of ideas and try to work on what I can with any downtime I have so I can create what I want to create.
